Home-Start Epsom Ewell and Banstead is an independent charity with Trustees being responsible for directing the management and administration of the charity. Trustees have a wide range of roles but are primarily responsible for making the charity effective, providing overall direction and maintaining sound management of funds. Briony Thomas
Chair of Trustees
Briony feels privileged to be the Chair of Trustees. She has been a Trustee since 2017. Following a diverse career in the care sector, she bring over 13 years’ experience of developing and running services. Briony is passionate about early help and the difference we can make to the lives of families in Surrey.
Michael Blackburn
Trustee (Treasurer)
Michael joined the board of Trustees in November 2022 and supports the office with all things finance.
Judy Walsh
Trustee (Safeguarding)
Judy has been a member of the board of Trustees since September 2021 and is responsible for overseeing our safeguarding practice. She is a qualified Social Worker with more than 40 years’ experience as a practitioner and Manager in the fields of Child Protection and Fostering and Adoption. Judy now works independently in a number of roles on a paid and voluntary basis in relation to Childrens and Adults Social care, and is currently a member of the BASW special interest group for Children and Families. Judy lives locally and has two adult sons.
Jayne Morgan
Trustee (HR)
Jayne joined the board of Trustees in August 2021 and supports the office with her wealth of knowledge in Human Resources and Policies.
Richard Moody
Trustee (Fundraising Subgroup)
Richard joined the committee in July 2018. He brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the role from his job as a fundraiser for Crisis.
Hannah Francis
Trustee (Policies and Fundraising)
Hannah is delighted to hold her first Trustee post, joining HSEEB in 2025. With a background in HR, she is passionate about supporting working parents and carers, helping them balance work and caregiving responsibilities, a commitment she continues in her role as Relationship Manager at Working Families. Hannah has personal experience supporting a close friend through postnatal psychosis, which has inspired her dedication to ensuring new parents have appropriate support needed. Outside of work, Hannah enjoys time with her children, gardening and the occasional sponsored triathlon! .
Simon Dennis
Trustee (IT and Operations)
Simon is passionate about early years support to children and families in Epsom, Ewell and Banstead and joins the trustee board after a 25-year career as a business transformation consultant. He supports the charity in all aspects of its work, with a particular focus on IT and Operations.
Denise Crone
Trustee (Fundraising Subgroup)
Denise joined the board in March 2026 following a 40-year career in the charity and public sectors, where she held a range of operational management and leadership roles. She is keen to use her skills and experience to make a difference in her local community and was drawn to Home-Start because of the demonstrable impact the charity has on improving the lives and futures of children and their families.
