On 22nd March, our community came together in the most inspiring way as ten amazing runners took on the Surrey Half Marathon in support of Home‑Start Epsom, Ewell & Banstead. Each runner brought their own story, motivation and heart to the challenge, and together, they’ve already raised over £5,100 to support local families who need us most.
This year’s event felt especially meaningful as we start celebrating our 30th anniversary, marking three decades of supporting parents through some of their toughest moments.
Running for Families: Meet Some of Our Inspiring Participants
🏃♂️ Steve – Trustee, Runner, and Birthday Challenger
Just two days before his 60th birthday, our wonderful trustee Steve laced up his trainers to prove to himself that he could still conquer 13 miles. For him, choosing to run for Home‑Start was simple:
“We are a great little charity providing amazing support locally to young families.”
What Steve loves most is the passion of our staff and volunteers, people who show up every day to make sure no parent feels alone.
🏃♀️ Briony – Celebrating 30 Years of Home‑Start
Briony has been part of Home‑Start for nearly a decade, and this year she ran the Surrey Half as part of our 30th anniversary celebrations. She describes Home‑Start as a fantastic charity doing vital work to give children the best possible start in life.
What inspires her most?
The enthusiasm, empathy and dedication of the staff and volunteers supporting local families.
On race day, she was most excited about crossing the finish line and celebrating with the other runners and supporters.
🏃♀️ Florence – Our Amazing Young Fundraiser
One of the brightest stars of this year’s challenge was Florence, who took on her own running challenge after being inspired by our anniversary fundraising. She’s loved running with friends and can’t wait to earn her medal. Her enthusiasm reminds us that anyone at any age can make a difference.
Together, They Ran So Families Don’t Have to Struggle Alone
Every mile run, every step taken, and every donation made helps us provide emotional and practical support to parents facing difficult times. Thanks to our runners and their supporters, more families will receive the help they need to feel confident, connected and supported.
